UAB Division of Surgical Oncology Director and James P. Hayes, Jr., Endowed Professor in Gastrointestinal Oncology Vikas Dudeja, M.D., FACS, was recently elected to the position of recorder for the Association of Academic Surgery (AAS) at this year's Academic Surgical Congress (ASC) in Houston, Texas.

As recorder, Dudeja will serve as chair of the Program Committee and create the ASC program, which will include organizing all formal awards for best papers, best presentations, and best abstracts for the annual congress.

"I am honored to be elected by my peers to the role of recorder for the AAS," says Dudeja. "The position of recorder plays a vital role in the planning and orchestration of key conference details, and I am grateful for the trust and support I've been given to accomplish these duties."

With a patent and more than 100 research publications, Dudeja is a proven surgeon-scientist whose research has been supported by grant funding from the NIH, Department of Defense, VA Merit Program, and society foundations including the Society of Surgical Oncology and National Pancreas Foundation.
