On Tuesday, April 18, the UAB Department of Surgery hosted its annual Resident Research Day. The yearly event serves as a platform for general surgery residents to present their ongoing research projects and discuss their findings with the UAB Surgery community at large.
This year’s event featured 28 presenters, including five visiting residents from external institutions. Dr. Rachel R. Kelz served as the 2023 Resident Research Day Visiting Professor and delivered her UAB Surgery Grand Rounds lecture entitled “Harnessing the Power of Surgical Research to Improve Health.”
“Research Day is a much-anticipated occasion where we can honor the hard work of our residents and recognize the contributions they are making in the field,” says Assistant Program Director for Resident Research of the General Surgery Residency Program Dr. Karin Hardiman. “I am certainly proud of their hard work and look forward to seeing the many great things our residents will go on to accomplish.”
During the proceedings, the department also honored several exemplary residents for outstanding presentations and research findings.
