The UAB Department of Surgery is proud to announce the creation of the Surgery Advisory Council.

The group, composed of friends of the department in the Birmingham area and beyond, will assist in the guidance of department missions, provide consultation to department leadership, and strengthen the valued and trusted network of surgical partners.

The Advisory Council will work closely with the departmental leadership team to develop philanthropic efforts and advance the clinical, educational, and research missions of the UAB Department of Surgery.

Council members include the Honorable Luther Strange, Gordon Lee, Thomas Brigham, Barbara Burton, John Russell Thomas, Jamey McMahon, and Nancy Goedecke.

Each participant will join one in-person and two virtual council meetings each year through their three-year term.

"The Department of Surgery is thankful for the commitment made by each of the inaugural council members," says Fay Fletcher Kerner Endowed Chair of Surgery Dr. Herbert Chen. “This is an exciting time for our department in terms of advancement and discovery, and I look forward to the insights and accomplishments to come from the council.”
