Several members of the UAB Department of Surgery have been selected to participate in UAB Medicine leadership programs.

The programs seek to enhance the management capabilities of faculty and staff through personal development, mentorship training, and collaboration. Participants are selected based on experience and their ongoing leadership development, and are understood to be leaders with high potential.

Members of the Department of Surgery who participated in the UAB Medicine Institute for Leadership program include:

• Mary McDougal - Executive Administrator for the Department of Surgery
• Dr. Vikas Dudeja - Director of the Division of Surgical Oncology
• Dr. Lily Gutnik - Divison of Breast & Endocrine Surgery Assistant Professor & Associate Vice Chair of Global Surgery 

Along with the Institute for Leadership, McDougal also participated in Momentum Leaders in Medicine at UAB, a program designed to help women leaders find their strengths and expand their management skills.
