UAB Department of Surgery research resident Bayley Jones, M.D., was recently recognized at the 9th World Congress of the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) Society as the ERAS Nursing and Allied Health Professionals Abstract Presentation Winner in Lisbon, Portugal.

Her presentation focused on identifying downstream components of enhanced recovery that are associated with receiving preoperative education. Findings from her research will be used to focus education efforts and improve the quality of preoperative education for patients, particularly vulnerable patient populations.

Jones is a member of UAB Associate Division Director of Gastrointestinal Surgery Dr. Daniel Chu's lab, where she researches the identification and reduction of health disparities found in surgery.

"We are incredibly proud of Dr. Jones' accomplishments and look forward to all that she will achieve in the future as she works to create equitable care for all in surgical settings," says Chu.

Jones also recently received the Association for Academic Surgery /Association for Academic Surgery Foundation's Trainee Clinical Outcomes / Health Services Trainee Research Award for her work on enhanced recovery programs for low health literacy patients.

She is also a Marnix E. Heersink School of Medicine alumni and a clinical resident at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.
