UAB Division of Surgical Oncology Instructor Srikanth Iyer, Ph.D., has been awarded a $297,000 grant for his project entitled "Evaluating the Role of NOTCH Signaling in Chronic Pancreatitis" by the U.S. Department of Defense.
The grant was provided through the Peer Reviewed Medical Research Program Discovery Award, which seeks to encourage, select, and manage medical research projects of scientific merit that benefit the health care of service members, veterans, and their beneficiaries.
Iyer joined the UAB Department of Surgery in November of 2022 and has played a crucial role in the development of research in the lab of Surgical Oncology Division Director Vikas Dudeja, M.D.
Iyer’s research aims to understand the mechanisms of acute and chronic pancreatitis, to improve the regeneration process of a previously damaged pancreas in patients suffering from chronic pancreatitis.
