On April 29, 2024, the UAB General Surgery Residency hosted its annual Resident Research Day.
Ankush Gosain, M.D., Ph.D., from the University of Colorado's Division of Pediatric Surgery, served as the event’s visiting faculty member for the associated grand rounds lecture and assisted in the selection of awardees. Visiting residents from the University of Wisconsin and Baylor College of Medicine were also invited to participate.
The event featured multiple categories of projects, including: Basic/Translational Research, Outcomes/HSR Research, Education Research, Quality Improvement Research, and Global Research. A total of 23 surgical residents from UAB presented their projects, and four were recognized with awards.
The award recipients were:
- Emily Baird, M.D, M.A., for Outstanding Clinical Science Research
- Hannah Ficarino, M.D., for Outstanding Clinical Science Research
- Adam Banks, M.D., for Outstanding Clinical Science Research
- Haddon Mullins, M.D., for The Tyler and Brooke Wahl Resident Research Award for the Most Outstanding Presentation
"We take pride in the projects developed by our research residents and their achievements during their dedicated academic years. Upon graduating, I am confident that they each will emerge well-prepared surgeons who will continue to innovate and pioneer therapies for their patients," says UAB General Surgery Program Director Britney Corey, M.D., MCAM.
