UAB Division of Breast & Endocrine Surgery Assistant Professor and Global Surgery Associate Vice Chair Lily Gutnik, M.D., MPH, has been selected for the 2024 Lloyd Nyhus Scholarship to attend the World Congress of Surgery this year.
Gutnik currently serves as assistant program director for global surgery at UAB and collaborates on various breast cancer research projects in Tanzania, Kenya, Cameroon, and Pakistan.
In the past year, Gutnik has been nominated and appointed to the International Committee of the American Association of Breast Surgeons and the Society of Surgical Oncology. She also contributed to the 2023 Global Cancer Surgery Commission report.
"It is a great honor to have been selected as a travel scholar by the International Society of Surgery. I am looking forward to attending the World Congress and collaborating with surgeon-scientists who are leading actionable change and developments in global surgery and breast surgery," says Gutnik.
About the Lloyd Nyhus Scholarship
The Lloyd Nyhus Scholarship is funded by the United States Chapter of the International Society of Surgery. It offers an opportunity for a promising American faculty member within their first five years of service to attend the World Congress of Surgery. The scholarship award amount is $2,500, and the recipient will also have their registration fee for the meeting waived. The World Congress of Surgery will be in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from August 25 – 29, 2024.
