robert russellRobert Russell, M.D., MPH, a professor in UAB’s Department of Surgery and director of Children’s of Alabama’s trauma program, was recently appointed to the editorial board for The Journal of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery.

Russell was offered a position on the board after having reviewed articles for the journal on an ad hoc basis for many years and recently publishing multiple recent manuscripts in the journal.

Last year he served as a guest editor for a supplement on pediatric hemorrhagic shock.

Also last year, Russell, along with Trauma and Surgical Critical Care fellow Danny Lammers, M.D., pioneered a new series for the journal, called the “What You Need to Know” guides. He published “Damage Control Resuscitation in Pediatric Trauma: What You Need to Know.”

The Journal of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery, a monthly peer-reviewed journal, is sponsored by the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma (AAST). It is “designed to provide the scientific basis to optimize care of the severely injured and critically ill surgical patient.”

“I am honored to be chosen for this editorial board for The Journal of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery,” Russell said. “I have reviewed manuscripts for this journal on an ad hoc basis for several years and am happy to join a distinguished group of clinicians and researchers on the editorial board.”
