The UAB Department of Surgery has been recently recognized by U.S. News & World Report (USNWR) for its outstanding service to patients.
The UAB Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery has been recognized as a top 50 program in the nation, and the Division of Gastrointestinal Surgery was ranked as high-performing by the USNWR for 2024-2025.
In order to qualify for a national ranking by the U.S. News & World Report, a healthcare facility has to be associated with a medical school, be a teaching hospital, or have a predetermined number of 100- 200 hospital beds, depending on available imaging exams.
UAB meets all four criteria to be nationally ranked, a testament to its commitment to excellence. This recognition further solidifies UAB's position as the best hospital in the Birmingham metro area and the state of Alabama, providing patients with the highest quality of care.
"UAB Medicine is continuously working to enhance the quality of care we provide. We are dedicated to recruiting empathetic and motivated individuals to provide exceptional care for our patients and mentor our trainees," says UAB Department of Surgery Executive Vice Chair Gregory Kennedy, M.D., Ph.D.
