UAB Division of Gastrointestinal Surgery Assistant Professor Robert Hollis, M.D., MSPH, has been selected as the leader of the colorectal cancer management team for the O'Neal Cancer Service Line.
Each of O’Neal’s patient care service lines integrate research expertise into clinical operations to offer patients innovative therapies and promising outcomes. The center's objective is to enhance the quality of life for individuals with cancer and to eliminate health disparities.
Hollis is a colorectal surgeon and his research addresses health inequities by developing and implementing effective interventions. He has a specific focus on improving outcomes of patients with hereditary colorectal cancer syndromes. Additional research interests include improving outcomes and transitions of care for patients with a new ostomy.
In addition to his service on the colorectal cancer management team, Hollis and UAB Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology Assistant Professor Patricia Ajayi-Fox, M.D., have led the effort to secure funding for colonoscopy screenings for low-income residents in Jefferson County.
"Taking on a leadership role in the colorectal cancer management team is a privilege. I look forward to working with our many talented care team partners to promote prevention, clinical care programs, and clinical trial participation for patients with colorectal cancer," says Hollis.
