UAB Division of Surgical Oncology Director Vikas Dudeja, M.D., has been elected secretary of the Society of Asian Academic Surgeons (SAAS).
In 2021, Dudeja was elected as a councilor for SAAS. He has served in this role for the past three years.
"I am honored to have been elected as the secretary for SAAS. I hold a deep appreciation for the society and its members. The SAAS annual meeting is always something I look forward to attending, as it provides a valuable opportunity to reconnect with old friends and engage in meaningful discussions about science, research, and the representation of the Asian community in surgery," says Dudeja.
In the clinical setting, Dudeja also leads his own research laboratory. He has successfully secured funding from various government-related institutions, including the Department of Defense and the National Institutes of Health.
He is the principal investigator of clinical trials studying acute and chronic pancreatitis. In addition, he conducts research on the mechanisms of pancreatic cancer and develops therapeutic strategies to prevent metastasis and recurrence.
