Dr. Jeremie LeverUAB General Surgery Resident Jeremie Lever, M.D., Ph.D, has been elected as an active member of the Association of Academic Surgery (AAS) Basic and Translational Science Committee.

Lever will assume his new role on the committee on February 13, 2025, the final day of the Academic Surgical Congress meeting, and will serve on the committee for the next two years.

A member of Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society, Lever has authored over 20 research articles and has been cited over a thousand times by other researchers in the field of basic science.

During medical school at UAB, Lever completed the Medical Scientist Training Program, earning both his medical and doctoral degrees. Throughout his academic career, he has completed projects related to acute kidney injury, melanoma, and the intersection of these diseases with immunology.

Lever’s current research interests include aberrant sialylation and treatment resistance mechanisms in colorectal cancer under the mentorship of UAB Division of Gastrointestinal Surgery Professor Karin Hardiman, M.D., Ph.D.
