The UAB Department of Surgery and the Division of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery are honored to welcome a new faculty member: Robert Laverty, M.D.
About Robert Laverty, M.D.
Dr. Robert Laverty is an active duty Air Force trauma surgeon with the Special Operations Surgical Team (SOST) based out of UAB. He joined UAB in 2024, when he became a clinical assistant professor with the Division of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery.
Before coming to UAB, Laverty served as a surgeon and teaching fellow at Brook Army Medical Center (BAMC), located on Joint Base San Antonio. He was the simulation chief, open skills curriculum developer, and robotic skills curriculum developer, as well as a lecturer, for the BAMC General Surgery program.
Laverty completed his general surgery residency at BAMC and earned his medical degree from Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland.
