Dr. Robert RussellRobert Russell, M.D., professor in the Division of Pediatric Surgery and director of Children’s of Alabama’s trauma program was selected for Central Committee on Trauma (COT) membership. The membership comprises a total of three years, beginning in March 2025.

The COT holds annual meetings at the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Clinical Congress and requires candidates to be recommended by current COT members and the executive committee.

During their three-year term, COT members are required to attend the ACS annual meeting at least twice. The committee offers various projects and workshops that allow members to contribute to advancements in trauma care. Additionally, membership can be renewed after the initial term.

The COT has Surgical Specialty Committees that provide unique insights and represent the COT's priorities within specific specialty organizations. This collaboration enhances ongoing efforts to improve care for injured patients.

“I am excited to be involved in the Committee on Trauma, which will allow me to contribute to discussions regarding pediatric surgery priorities related to trauma surgery. Participating in the COT workshops will enable me to share my perspective as a pediatric trauma specialist and learn from other pediatric and adult trauma surgeons,” says Russell.
