Physicians filed into the Westin hotel ballroom earlier this month to attend the UAB General Surgery CME Course, hosted by the Department of Surgery and the School of Medicine’s Division of Continuing Medical Education. Over the course of two days, January 20-21, participants had the opportunity to attend 26 talks on various topics such as GI malignancy surgery; breast, melanoma and endocrine surgeries; benign GI surgery; trauma and emergency general surgery and bariatric surgery.

“I think this was a very helpful course, and I look forward to watching it get better every year,” said Greg Kennedy, M.D., Ph.D., the event’s organizer.

Panels of departmental leaders discussed an array of issues facing surgeons today, from trauma and emergency surgery to elective breast surgery. More than 25 general surgeons from communities throughout Alabama attended the event.

Next year’s course is slated for January 26-27, 2018.

“We anticipate improving this event next year by adding more case presentations and a video session,” Kennedy said.
