General Surgery Incoming Residents

According to the UAB School of Medicine Office of Graduate Medical Education, 220 medical students from 63 U.S. universities and 27 international universities will join UAB as residents in 2017.

This year, the General Surgery Residency Program welcomes eight new categorical interns and three preliminary interns from four different states and three different countries. Of those eight categorical interns, three are UAB students who said they are excited to stay at their alma mater.

“Residency is the next step in my training, certainly not the end of the road,” said Lauren Theiss, an incoming UAB general surgery resident who walked across the stage of the Alys Stephens Center on Match Day last Friday with her peers. “I’m looking forward to continuing my medical education and taking that next step.”
