The departments of Surgery, Pathology and Biomedical Engineering have come together to form a new research seminar series. The purpose is to provide a prestigious venue for world-recognized leaders in biomedical research to present their work and learn about the research programs in our departments. It also aims to foster more interdepartmental interactions, training and career development, while facilitating the academic year’s speaker schedules.

For this first year, we will host a total of 18 speakers, two per month, with each department hosting six speakers each across the nine-month (September — May) academic year. All faculty are encouraged to nominate speakers. If your nominee is selected by the seminar series committee, you must then promptly confirm their commitment to a full-day visit. You will also act as their host, introduce their talk and work with your administrator to organize their visit including a strong itinerary. Typical visits will span one or two nights and will include one dinner for up to five people and a luncheon with students and postdocs. Speakers will be paid an honorarium.

We hereby call for nominations for compelling and prominent speakers for the Surgery, Pathology and Biomedical Engineering Joint Seminar Series.

Suggested speakers include, but are not limited to, those involved in cardiovascular or stem cell regeneration, cancer, molecular or cellular pathology or other appropriate fields. Speakers can represent industry or academic research, and those who offer particular interest or benefit to students and postdoctoral trainees are encouraged. The series will also aim to exemplify the importance of diversity in science and medicine.

Please email your nominations to the contacts listed below by May 15 and include in that email your nominee’s name, your nominee’s institution, a one-sentence statement of your nominee’s research interests and an explanation as to why those research interests are appropriate for one of the members of the seminar committee. If your nominee is selected, you will be provided a list of available days during which the candidate speaker can present, and you will be responsible for contacting the speaker and getting their commitment within two weeks. You are also welcome to provide nominations throughout the year as dates become available.

To nominate a faculty member for the Surgery, Pathology and Biomedical Engineering Joint Seminar Series, please include the materials listed in the paragraph above in an email addressed to the following people:
