Congratulations to fourth-year general surgery residents Carla N. Holcomb, M.D., and Charles J. Keith, Jr., M.D., who matched into The Ohio State University’s Minimally Invasive/Bariatric Surgery Fellowship program and the Cleveland Clinic’s Advanced Laparoscopic and Bariatric Surgery Fellowship program, respectively.
"This [Ohio State] fellowship is one of the busiest programs in the country specializing in bariatric surgery, hernia repair and minimally invasive treatment for reflux disease and solid organ removal," Holcomb said. "I believe the outstanding MIS faculty members at UAB, including Dr. Jayleen Grams, Dr. Britney Corey and Dr. Richard Stahl, have provided with me the excellent training required for success in fellowship."
Keith echoed Holcomb’s sentiments about training at UAB.
"During my time at UAB, I have realized the profound impact obesity and its associated comorbidities have on our patients' health," Keith said. "Across all subspecialties, we encounter patients whose obesity, diabetes, hypertension or sleep apnea are causative of their admitting diagnosis or hinder our ability to care for them. As each of these processes can be put into remission or even cured with bariatric surgery, I look forward to helping patients achieve healthier lives."
