The Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery welcomes three new faculty this month: Christopher G. A. McGregor, M.B., F.R.C.S., M.D. (Hon.); Guerard W. Byrne, Ph.D., and Rongbing Xie, Dr.P.H., M.P.H.

McGregor and Byrne, both from the Mayo Clinic, will work alongside the UAB Xenotransplantation Program, while Xie, a statistician, will work in The James and John Kirklin Institute for Research in Surgical Outcomes.

Recruitment efforts are also underway in other divisions and several new faculty will join the UAB Department of Surgery this summer. Those include:

  • George Yang, M.D., Ph.D., of Stanford University, will join the Division of Gastrointestinal Surgery as professor and serve as the chief of surgery at the VA and UAB Department of Surgery vice chair for VA Affairs.
  • Daniel Cox, M.D., of the University of Cincinnati, will join the Division of Acute Care Surgery on July 1 as an associate professor and the trauma medical director. Dr. Cox is currently an active-duty U.S. Air Force surgeon assigned as the medical director for en route care in the Office of the Command Surgeon, Air Mobility Command.
  • Graeme McFarland, M.D., a 2016 graduate of UAB’s General Surgery Residency and current fellow at Stanford University, will join the Division of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy as an assistant professor.
