An online summer camp at the University of Alabama at Birmingham will host a “time travel” in history where high school students can reimagine actual legal cases and participate in mock mediation and mock trials.
The Journey to Attorney camp is presented by the College of Arts and Sciences’ Department of Criminal Justice. During an intense week, camp students will break down actual United States Supreme Court cases and reimagine what would have been different in the case for justice to happen in the community long before it reached a court.
Students will:
- Work one-on-one with practicing attorneys, professors and trial experts.
- Learn the essentials to prepare for pre-law studies and law school.
- Improve writing, reasoning and presentation skills for college admission.
- Further develop competencies in critical thinking and writing to be understood and improve scholarship opportunities.
- Meet other students interested in the law.
When asked if she would recommend pre-law camp, Ria J., an Alabama School of Fine Arts student, answered, “To everyone ... ev-er-y-one. I made a lot of new friends, and I learned a lot about law.”
Camp will run July 12-18. Registration is limited to the first 35 participants.
