The University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Department of Biology in the College of Arts and Sciences is set to host its 12th annual Darwin Day on Thursday, Feb. 15.
Held at the UAB National Alumni Society House, Darwin Day will allow attendees to take part in a public poster session highlighting current UAB research beginning at 5 p.m.
At 6 p.m., participants will be able to sit for the lecture “The Cheating Cell: How Evolution Helps Us Understand and Treat Cancer,” hosted by Dr. Athena Aktipis, host of the podcast “Zombified.” Aktipis will host a meet and greet at 7 p.m. directly following the lecture.
Darwin Day is an annual celebration recognized internationally in honor of the birthday and legacy of the historically renowned biologist Charles Darwin, commemorating his contributions to modern science and society. UAB’s Darwin Day celebrates the advancement of science, education and human well-being.
