Explore activities and lectures set for Community Month 2019

CommunityJoomlaThe University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Vice President’s Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is observing its third annual Community Month with a calendar full of events, lectures, trainings and more to celebrate diversity within the community.

Community Month celebrates and showcases UAB’s commitment to diversity through a monthlong series of events sponsored by schools, departments and programs across the campus. Throughout January, a variety of activities are planned to engage students, faculty, staff and the wider community in diversity programs that include lectures, cultural programs and games organized by various academic and support units across the campus.

Many of these events allow departments and organizations to showcase their diversity efforts through presentations, lectures and performances. Others will allow participants to take part in critical dialogues and collaborate with local community partners. Community Month will showcase diversity at UAB, and the types of events will display the importance of inclusion across the university.

UAB has also collaborated on a joint commission with the City of Birmingham and other sponsors to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Birmingham King Week includes events on UAB’s campus as well as across the city.
