Beginning May 5, from 4:30-6:30 p.m., the park will welcome the Mobile Market to its lineup of offerings for park frequenters. To celebrate Cinco de Mayo, there will be a cooking demonstration by a local chef, who will make veggie tacos with ingredients which can be purchased from the market.

“Live HealthSmart Alabama is pleased to partner with Railroad Park in making healthy food options available to our community,” said Teresa Shufflebarger, chief administrative officer for Live HealthSmart Alabama, an initiative of the University of Alabama at Birmingham. “Railroad Park provides outstanding space for exercise, fellowship and education, and we welcome the opportunity to extend our Mobile Market into this unique space.”

Operated in partnership with P.E.E.R. and East Lake Market, the grocery store on wheels makes healthy, affordable, fresh food accessible to many of Birmingham’s underserved communities. With an entire wall of fresh produce and an incredible selection of pantry staples, proteins and dairy, the Mobile Market has something for everyone at an affordable price.

Located across 19 acres in downtown Birmingham, Railroad Park serves as a spot for patrons to engage in physical activity, participate in wellness initiatives and attend a wide range of special events.

“Railroad Park is a community space for Birmingham residents to be able to spend time outdoors,” said Ronda Robinson, director of Events and Community Engagement for Railroad Park Foundation. “The addition of the Mobile Market just made sense — it’s one more way we can help our community live a healthy lifestyle.”

Railroad Park is a connector for all of Birmingham’s neighborhoods. Adding the Mobile Market to its list of amenities will encourage visitors to purchase fresh food to take home and cook after their daily stroll at the park.

The Mobile Market will return to Railroad Park at the same time on May 19, June 2 and June 16.
