Jacob Ledbetter, a freshman in the UAB Collat School of Business, has been selected for the prestigious Critical Language Scholarship Program. It is the sixth such honor for a UAB student in the past three years. The CLS selected 631 U.S. students from 5,225 applicants this year and will fund their study of a critical-need language abroad for seven to 10 weeks. Ledbetter, an economics major, will study in South Korea this summer at Chonbuk University in Jeonju.
“I hope to be able to use the language skills I acquire this summer in my professional life as I pursue a career in the energy sector and renewable energy in particular,” said Ledbetter. “As many of these energy companies expand internationally, leaders in the industry will need to be familiar with other languages and cultures.”
