The second annual Blazer Fun Run, set for 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012, offers faculty, staff, students and alumni the opportunity to get physically fit and learn about all the health resources, services, and benefits available at UAB. Participants can walk, jog or run the two-mile course, which begins near Carmichael Hall, weaves through the UAB campus and Railroad Park, and finishes at the Hill University Center.
The event, hosted by UAB Employee Wellness, Viva Health, UAB Campus Recreation and Children’s of Alabama Wellness, will culminate with a celebration on the UAB Campus Green featuring live music by the band Ocean Street, food, inflatables, giveaways and more.
Because the Fun Run coincides with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, all UAB breast cancer survivors participating will be recognized for their strength and courage in a special way. A new initiative specifically for survivors also will be unveiled at the event.
Registration for the event is under way. UAB Wellness Coordinator Lauren Whitt and Campus Recreation Center Director Sean Ries have some tips to help you prepare for the big day.
