Students with the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Engineering recently helped Carver High School students build an electric car for the Honda Electric Car Challenge. This was the first year Carver’s Engineering Academy competed in the event, and they were one of only three schools to not suffer debilitating mechanical issues on the track.
Carver High’s electric car was built by 10 students using 188 man hours over three weeks, with the help of undergraduate students from UAB’s Department of Mechanical Engineering. Their car ran uninterrupted the entire two-hour span of the competition, one hour in the morning and another hour in the afternoon.
