The Callahan Eye Hospital at UAB has been named to the 2013 “100 Great Places to Work in Healthcare” list by Becker’s Hospital Review. The annual list was developed through nominations and editorial research, and organizations were chosen for their robust benefits, wellness initiatives, professional development opportunities and work environments that promote employee collaboration and satisfaction.
Becker’s Hospital Review said the Callahan Eye Hospital is committed to employee development and has a tuition reimbursement program for employees who wish to seek higher education or certifications. There is no annual limit to the tuition reimbursement provided to each employee, and if the employee earns an A, tuition and books are reimbursed 100 percent. Many employees make the most of this benefit, including the hospital's CFO, who earned her bachelor's and master's degrees and CPA with Callahan's tuition reimbursement. When new employees join the team, the hospital pairs them with experienced employees through a mentor program that focuses on on-boarding.
The Callahan Eye Hospital is the state’s only facility dedicated to providing quality medical and surgical eye care to the people of Alabama and the Southeast. Callahan’s primary business consists of outpatient ophthalmology and ambulatory surgery, making it one of the busiest ophthalmology surgery centers in the country. Moreover, the hospital offers a 24-hour, 7 day a week eye emergency room and is the region’s only Level I Ocular Trauma Center.
