UAB Medical Clinical Psychology doctoral student Annie Artiga-Garner, 26, of Madison, Ala., is the UAB University Transportation Center Student of the Year, selected because of her unique contributions to the transportation field.
Garner, a graduate assistant and a project coordinator for the UAB UTC Translational Research for Injury Prevention (TRIP) Laboratory, has spent the past two years studying the psychological aspects of distracted driving. The award comes with a $1,000 scholarship and a trip to the Transportation Research Board national conference to be held in Washington, D.C., Jan. 22, 2011.
Garner graduated from UAB in 2006 with a bachelor of science degree and received her master's degree in clinical/medical psychology from UAB in 2009. She has authored four published manuscripts and has presented at more than a dozen scientific meetings.
