The 25th annual Camille Armstrong Memorial Scholarship Stepshow at the University of Alabama at Birmingham will take place at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7.
This year marks 25 years of honoring the life of former UAB Ambassador Camille Yvette Armstrong, who was killed in a car accident March 11, 1986. Armstrong was a hardworking, dedicated student and a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority who was active on UAB’s campus. At the time of her death, she was within several weeks of graduating with a degree in political science. One year later, a scholarship was created in her honor; each year it is awarded to a deserving African-American student. The Camille Armstrong Memorial Scholarship Stepshow, a student-led initiative, was later created to support the scholarship fund.
The theme for this year’s show is “25 Years: The Legacy of Camille Armstrong.” It will take place in UAB’s Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center, 1200 10th Ave. South. The stepshow features rhythmic stepping from various chapters of fraternities and sororities within the state of Alabama competing for cash prizes. The proceeds from the show will go toward the endowed scholarship. Tickets may be purchased online or in person at One Stop Student Services and at the Alys Stephens Center. Advance purchase tickets are $20 and $15 for students with a valid ID.
Tickets on the day of the show are $25 and $20 for students. Call 205-934-8225 for more information.
