UAB Medicine has been named one of the “150 Great Places to Work in Healthcare” by Becker’s Hospital Review for the second year in a row.
The 2015 list includes both health care providers — medical groups, ambulatory surgery centers, home health providers, and hospitals and health systems — along with other types of health care-specific companies, such as consulting firms, technology providers, professional organizations and more.
According to Becker’s Hospital Review website, the list was developed through a combination of nominations and editorial research. The organizations were chosen for their benefits offerings, wellness programs, commitment to diversity and inclusion, professional development opportunities, and environments that promote employee satisfaction and work-life balance. Organizations cannot pay for inclusion on the list.
Becker’s cites UAB Medicine as an academic medical center with roughly more than 15,000 employees that is ranked highly for clinical excellence by U.S. News & World Report and other organizations. UAB Medicine is composed of six entities, including UAB Hospital, UAB School of Medicine, UAB Callahan Eye Hospital and UAB Health System. UAB Medicine has earned recognition as a topnotch employer, as the Birmingham Business Journal has named it a Healthiest Employer and the American Heart Association gave it the Gold Level Fit-Friendly Award.
Additional benefits highlighted by the Review include an on-site daily farm stand from March through November where employees can get fresh produce. Employees also have access to on-site exercise classes as part of the system’s wellness program. The Employee Perk program gives UAB Medicine workers discounts at local restaurants, shops and retailers. Numerous employee development opportunities are available, and the system offers tuition assistance to employees as well as their spouses and dependents.
