sonny slaughterHuman trafficking expert Sunny Slaughter will give a lecture from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., March 14, 11:30-1:30 in Sterne Library Room 172. The lecture is hosted by the UAB College of Arts and Sciences Department of Social Work, as part of National Social Work Month. The month of March is recognized by the National Association of Social Workers and serves as a time to celebrate the contributions of social workers and educate the public about the many ways these professionals to improve the lives of others.

Slaughter is as a national and international subject matter expert in human trafficking, criminal behavior, victimization and other crimes against persons. She is a federally certified law enforcement instructor and consultant for the Department of Homeland Security and Federal Law Enforcement Training Center. She holds multiple task force and FEMA certifications and is a recognized member of International Law Enforcement and Educators Association.

The lecture is titled, “Marginalized. Masked. Missed: Vulnerable Populations of Human Trafficking From the Lens of Health and Human Services.” 

The lecture is free and open to the public.
