University of Alabama at Birmingham Alzheimer’s Disease Center, will provide an overview of current Alzheimer’s research at the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America’s Educating America Tour.
According to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, more than 5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease and require the attention of a caregiver. Richard Powers, M.D., professor in theThe free event aims to increase awareness of the disease and the caregiving strategies required to successfully support a life affected by Alzheimer’s. The event takes place from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, April 20, at the Alys Stephens Center, 1200 10th Ave. South.
The event will include community memory screenings for early detection of memory loss and the Concepts in Care educational conference, where experts will discuss various components of Alzheimer’s care. During the conference, AFA’s Quilt to Remember, the nation’s first large-scale quilt that recognizes the millions of Americans living with Alzheimer’s disease, will be displayed.
