Good Games UAB hosts BlazerCon April 13-15

BlazerCon is Good Games UAB’s major event of the year, with tournaments, guest speakers, arcade cabinets, vendors and more.

blazercon logoGood Games UAB at the University of Alabama at Birmingham will host BlazerCon from April 13-15 in the Hill Student Center.

BlazerCon is Good Games UAB’s major event of the year. For its fourth edition, gg.UAB will feature guest speakers, arcade cabinets, tournaments for Street Fighter V, League of Legends and Super Smash Bros. with $1,000 in scholarship prizes Saturday and Sunday, vendors, and more. There also will be a special tournament Friday and Saturday presented with the Spirit and Traditions Committee called The Green and Gold Gauntlet, with a $1,500 scholarship prize. Tournament finals and other activities will be live-streamed on Twitch (twitch.tv/gguab).

John R. Jones III, Ph.D., vice president for Student Affairs, and Curtis A. Carver Jr., Ph.D., professor of computer science in the College of Arts and Sciences, vice president for Information Technology and chief information officer, will deliver the keynote at 3 p.m. Saturday, coinciding with the final round of the Green and Gold Gauntlet.

BlazerCon will kick off at 6 p.m. and run until midnight Friday; it will resume from noon to midnight Saturday and Sunday. Admission for UAB students, faculty and staff is free. Attendance for the public will cost $10 and cover the entire event. 

The gg.UAB program aims to create an environment that fosters a community of students with diverse backgrounds who actively engage in eSports initiatives and activities throughout the school year. The group provides programming, hands-on experience and mentoring to promote eSports culture within the community, while increasing career opportunities for UAB students.
