The University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Dentistry is holding its annual White Coat Ceremony for incoming first-year dental students at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, in the Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center’s Jemison Theater, 1200 10th Ave. South.
First-year students, also referred to as D1s, receive white coats that are symbolic of their entry into the dental profession. In addition, the UAB School of Dentistry Alumni Association provides lapel pins as a gift to each student, and all students sign and recite the dentist pledge.
“The White Coat Ceremony is more than an opportunity for students to receive white coats — it’s a chance for them to pledge their allegiance to providing the highest standard of dental and medical care to patients in their careers,” said Michelle Robinson, DMD, M.A., interim dean of the School of Dentistry. “This ceremony marks the students’ dedication to the field of dentistry, and reminds our current students, faculty, staff and alumni base about our commitments as dentists.”
