Buford is an expert on preserving the health and independence of older adults. He believes staying active as you age is one of the best ways to remain independent and have a better quality of life. 

Buford's research has examined the effect of physical activity on frailty, how mobility affects outcomes in hospitalized older adults and the role nutrition plays in healthy aging.
