Duxbury is a geriatrician who is passionate about helping the elderly live their best lives as they age. He specializes in fall prevention, senior mobility, Alzheimer's and dementia care and preventing overmedication in seniors.
Providing tools for the caregivers of elders with Alzheimer's or dementia is just one way Duxbury cares for both his patients and their families. He uses creative solutions to make the patient comfortable in his or her environment, while also keeping the family safe. For example, an Alzheimer's patient of his continued to try to do laundry, but in doing so, ruined her family's clothes and linens by using the wrong detergent and bleach. To solve this, he instructed the family to replace the bleach with water and detergent with cheap powdered milk. This allowed the patient to still feel helpful, but also prevented her from ruining their clothes.
Duxbury has written extensively about reducing the number of medications that seniors take, as well as how to take a team approach to geriatric care.
