Wajiha Mekki, a University of Alabama at Birmingham College of Arts and Sciences undergraduate student, was recently awarded a competitive CIBA Specialty Chemicals scholarship from the American Chemical Society.
The Lawrenceville, Georgia native is a member of the UAB Honors College and is interested in studying cancer biology and public health. After completing her undergraduate degree, she plans to pursue her masters and a Ph.D. to work in medicinal chemistry research, focusing on cancer treatments.
“I am extremely honored and excited to receive this prestigious award,” Mekki said. “UAB and the Honors College have helped me further develop my interest in chemistry and allowed me to better appreciate the diversity within the field.”
