Presented by the UAB College of Arts and Sciences, Arts Week events showcase students from the departments of Art and Art History, English, History, Music, and Theatre.

The UAB Piano Series will present Fei-Fei Dong on March 23, plus the PRISM concert March 31 will showcase students and faculty.

After four years of playing with the UAB Marching Blazers, Jonah Ross will graduate with his bachelor’s degree from the UAB School of Engineering.

More than half of the university’s 1,954 graduating students will walk in commencement this semester. The UAB President’s Medal will be awarded to Marnix E. Heersink, M.D.

More than 200 voices in the UAB Concert Choir and choirs from Helena, Calera, Springville and Indian Springs will join in singing “Carol of the Bells” and “O Holy Night.”

Reagan Martin, Austin Green and Sierra Frazier all plan to pursue graduate studies in music and music education.

Wonder and Panion, both Grammy Award winners, have collaborated musically for more than 30 years. Panion will conduct orchestras in each city for Wonder’s performances.

This season’s offerings will include the UAB Piano Series with alumnus Cahill Smith and “Gospel Goes Classical” with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra, plus free recitals and concerts from faculty and students.

For the 30th anniversary season, the band dug into the archives to craft a show of songs from different decades, including “Liberty Fanfare,” “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “Thriller” and more.

Panion, having worked with Richard Smallwood as conductor and arranger, was tapped by The Kennedy Center for his unique experience at merging gospel and classical music, particularly with the symphony orchestra.

This semester, at least 2,963 students are eligible to graduate, and more than 1,871 students are expected to walk in the three ceremonies in Bartow Arena.

The choir plus student and faculty soloists will perform the European premiere of a new 40-minute multimovement masterwork for choir and orchestra in Italy.

As summer approaches, registration for many UAB summer camps is now available.

Esther Park and Sun-A Park will perform a program of music by three American composers and close their recital with Gershwin’s famous “Rhapsody in Blue.”

Kirkman, 20, a UAB junior from Florence, Alabama, studying musical theater, was awarded the Chip Hand Prize for Vocal Excellence in the NextGen National contest presented by the American Pops Orchestra.
