UAB School of Engineering
camps:

UAB Materials Engineering Summer Camp

About: The study of engineering materials combines the fundamental science of chemistry and physics (and sometimes biology) with the applied problem solving of engineering. People in the materials field study metals, ceramics and plastics (including glass, composites, nanomaterials, and semiconductors) for everything from contact lenses to computer chips to crankshafts. By understanding how and why different materials bend, break, stretch, melt, corrode or conduct electricity under different conditions, materials engineers can design materials that make engines more efficient, airplanes lighter, cellphone batteries longer lasting and cancer-fighting drugs more effective.
