Measuring Success: Stewardship foundation
Metric: Spendable Cash and Investments to Operations
Just like we should all have readily accessible funds in our checking accounts to pay all the bills that support our life activities, a large, complex university should also have a healthy amount of spendable cash that is proportionate to its size and complexity of operations. When UAB borrows money to finance its growth, its lenders like to see the ratio in this metric be as large as possible.
Data definition: Measures the extent to which a university can rely on cash and investments that can be accessed over a short time or for a specific purpose to operate without earning any additional revenue. Source: UAB Financial Affairs.
