This morning, I was pleased to welcome students, faculty and staff to an important town hall to share the exciting progress and plans of our Research Strategic Initiative: Growth With Purpose, our road map to expand the positive impact of our research and reach $1 billion in research expenditures.

Several words come to mind when I consider what we have accomplished together in the past decade: Proud. Amazed. Inspired. Most of all — grateful.

Despite the many challenges we have faced, our growth and success have been extraordinary. I thank each of you for the vision, commitment and teamwork that have transformed UAB into a destination of choice for world-class education, research and patient care.

In this season of Thanksgiving, I enjoy pausing to reflect on the challenges we have overcome and give thanks for the blessings we enjoy.

Across our great university and Health System that together are UAB, 2022 has been a year filled with tremendous accomplishments as we continued to make a positive difference in countless people’s lives in Birmingham, across Alabama and around the world.
