Nearly 30 years ago, UAB celebrated reaching the $100 million mark in active research grants and contracts by hosting a picnic in the courtyard between Volker Hall, the School of Optometry and Lister Hill Library of the Health Sciences in April 1989.
In November, UAB surpassed $500 million in research grants and awards during the year ending Oct. 31, reaching $527,025,137. Every academic school at UAB, including all schools, the College of Arts and sciences, academic joint departments and central administration, all saw increases in funding awards throughout the year.
“This really speaks to our faculty, who are working harder and smarter to write winning proposals, and our administrative staff, who are working harder and more efficiently to process those proposals,” Christopher Brown, Ph.D., UAB’s vice president for Research, told UAB News. “We are aiming high and exceeding our goals, and it is truly a testament to the UAB research community’s great ideas, hard work and will to succeed.”
