patricia rAfter more than 35 years at UAB, Chief Financial Officer Patricia Raczynski has announced she will retire, effective June 30, 2015.

“Patricia has been an invaluable asset to UAB, providing steadfast commitment through the institution’s tremendous growth,” UAB President Ray L. Watts said. “We are grateful for her years of dedication as a steward of the financial operations of the university.”

A search committee will be formed in January, and a national search will be conducted to find Raczynski’s successor. A new chief financial officer is expected to be in place no later than June.

“UAB has been a very fun and interesting place to work,” Raczynski said. “I have seen much change and growth throughout my time here. I have worked with many great people, and they are what I will miss the most.”

Raczynski’s career began in 1979 as a testing coordinator for the UAB Student Development Center and financial aid counselor. Since then she has held a number of positions central to the financial operations of the university, including budget director from 1990-1993, assistant vice president for Financial Affairs from 1993-1995 and associate vice president for Financial Affairs from 1996-2013. She has also held the position of assistant provost and was named CFO in 2013.

“I have known Trish for more than 20 years and have enormous respect for her many contributions to UAB,” said Allen Bolton, vice president for Financial Affairs and Administration. “Her loyalty, work ethic and intellect are what I have most admired. The impact she’s had on the business practices of this institution are far-reaching and durable, and her influence will be missed. We wish her the very best in retirement.”
