OHS reorganizes along two unit lines

Written by

occupational healthUAB’s Occupational Health and Safety has a new reporting structure, but its daily operations and integration is unchanged and it will continue to serve campus and hospital units.

Groups within the department now report either to Lauretta Gerrity, DVM, senior associate vice president for Research Administration, or to Jolene King, assistant vice president of Facilities Administration. The split will not require a physical relocation for any of the groups.

Gerrity will oversee Research Health and Safety, led by Executive Director Elaine Broussard, who will mange these areas:

  • Radiation Safety
  • Laboratory Health and Safety
  • Biosafety
  • Research Safety Committee Administration

King will oversee Occupational Health and Safety, led by Randy Pewitt, executive director of Emergency Management and Safety, who will manage these areas:

  • OHS Administration
  • Industrial Hygiene
  • Environmental Management
  • Laboratory Ventilation
  • IT
  • Hospital Safety
  • Campus Safety
  • Emergency Preparedness and Business Continuity

Occupational Medicine will have a dual reporting relationship with Gerrity and King.
