UAB creates team to assess and manage behavioral threats

Written by

exclamationUAB and UAB Medicine employees have worked during the past few months to establish a Behavioral Threat Assessment and Management Team (BTAM) to help ensure a safe, secure and healthy campus environment for students, employees, and visitors.

This program, based on national best practices, uses a structured process to proactively evaluate and manage behavioral threats to the safety and well-being of members of the campus community. The BTAM team will assess threats, mitigate dangers and process the threats through appropriate channels.

The 20-member team, led by Andy Marsch, assistant vice president for Student Experience, and James Erwin, associate director of University Risk Management is a cross-section areas most likely to be called upon in a crisis. President Ray Watts and UAB Health System CEO William Ferniany praised the quick and diligent work of this group.

Teams will be visiting campus units to answer any questions. More information is available and frequently asked questions are answered on the website, uab.edu/threatassessment.
