Despite being thrown a coronavirus curveball, new Engineering Dean Jeffrey W. Holmes, M.D., Ph.D., who began his tenure at UAB July 1, says he is looking forward to what the future holds for the School of Engineering: opportunities for growing and diversifying its student population, defining and developing new research areas and constructing a new building, to name a few.

For its commitment to employee health and corporate health programming, UAB was named one of five finalists of the 2019 Healthiest Employers of Alabama, an awards program administered by health-intelligence platform Springbuk.

Now, with a second virtual commencement planned for August, summer 2020 graduates can contribute their best campus memories to make the online ceremony just as special.

One of the most recognizable campus features, the three windows have watched over UAB throughout its five decades. Now, after painstaking restoration, new generations of Blazers can enjoy their beauty for years to come.

It’s predicted that 68% of the world’s population will live in cities by 2050. As urban areas trend toward tech use and digitization, the coronavirus pandemic is revealing both potential pitfalls and opportunities for growth, says human rights scholar Tina Kempin Reuter, Ph.D.

Blazer Express bus routes crisscross the campus, and many employees rely on the buses to take them to work. UAB Transportation has implemented a strict cleaning regimen to help ensure the safety of its buses and vans and riders; however, taking public transit without precautions can introduce new risks for exposure to coronavirus.

Now, investigators across UAB have mobilized their research interests to help us better understand and fight coronavirus.

There’s just as much opportunity now for UAB students and alumni to make their next moves as there would be in more traditional times. This event will help connect them to employers and opportunities for professional growth. Regi

The three-year-old Green Labs program, once a cohort of just 18, anticipates 120 UAB labs will have My Green Lab certification by December — the largest number of any organization, academic or otherwise, worldwide.
