You may be eligible to participate in a research study looking at the effects of sacubitril/valsartan on how your body handles sugar. This medication is related to blood pressure and is safe to take with or without hypertension. Eligible participants must be healthy men and women, African American, and have no history of diabetes, heart disease or kidney problems. The study involves performing some exercise, taking sacubitril/valsartan, and collecting blood samples. Participants will be compensated $675 for completing all the visits. The study involves consuming prepared meals, performing exercise on a treadmill, undergoing a glucose test, and collecting blood, urine samples, and collection of genetic information. Geurs named new School of Dentistry dean
Nicolaas Geurs, D.D.S., M.S., inaugural holder of UAB's Weatherford-Palcanis Endowed Professorship in Dentistry and the Dental Alumni-Joseph F. Volker Chair of Clinical Dentistry, has been selected as the next dean of the UAB School of Dentistry following a national search. He will begin his new role June 1.

The U.S. Department of Labor has announced a change to the criteria for determining employees’ status as nonexempt (paid bi-weekly) or exempt (paid monthly) under the Fair Labor Standards Act. This is not a UAB decision; it is a federal law all employers must follow.

Johnny W. Scott, M.D., Ph.D., professor of nuclear medicine in the Department of Radiology, graduated from the School of Medicine in 1975 and has been a member of the faculty since 1978. Last month, he was honored for 45 years of service.

Healthy Women Needed for a Research Study
You may be eligible to participate in a research study: If you are a healthy female, between age of 18-50, still having a regular menstrual cycle & you are NOT on hormonal birth control (birth control pills or shots (i.e. Depo shot) or IUD, like Mirena). And, if you are willing to undergo an endometrial biopsy procedure and blood draw. Participants will be compensated a total of $200. Only requires 2 visits.
