The Business-Engineering Complex lobby will be the arena for a robot battle royale this week, when engineering students pit their specially designed robots against each other in the sumo ring.
The Sumobot competitions will be held from 8-10:30 a.m. Wednesday and 10:45 a.m.-1:15 p.m. Friday. The robots were designed and built by teams of students in the honors section classes during a five-week period.
Professor Doug Ross, who mentored the project, selected sumobots because it allowed students to gain experience with a wide range of technologies.
"Many unique robots were designed within the constraints," Ross said. "Each group designed its own robot geometry that was then manufactured using the design lab's 3-D printers.
