New Stories from the South, an annual compilation of short stories published by Algonquin Books of Chapel Hill and billed as the year's best stories written by southern writers, will republish a story from the recent edition of PMS poemmemoirstory in it's next edition.

The story "Some Thing Blue," written by Tayari Jones, will be republished in the complilation, which was guest edited by Madison Smartt Bell.

"We are especially delighted that Tayari Jones has been honored in this way," says Tina Harris, editor of PMS. "In addition to contributing her lovely essay, she has promoted PMS by distributing 50 copies of the latest issue to writers participating in FEMRITE, a women's writers conference in Uganda."

PMS' national award-winning track record now includes two awards from New Stories from the South. UAB's Ada Long received the first award in 2005. Other national awards received by PMS include: three from The Best Creative Nonfiction, three for The Best American Essay and two for The Best American Poetry.

PMS poemmemoirstory is a women's literary journal published by the UAB Department of English.
